My Inspirations Part I – My Ivy | Calgary Children’s Photographer
March 30th, 2009You would think that a photographer’s kid would be in front of the camera all the time. Once upon a time, my kids were. But, as things have gotten busier, I have been guilty of not taking more time to photograph them. They have always been my inspiration so I recently made myself a promise to stop more often and make sure I remember to keep up with capturing their lives as they are in the moment. So, welcome to part one of my promise, and meet my 5 yr old. She is an eccentric, perfectly kooky, totally original little person and I couldn’t love her more.
One of her favourite forms of self expression is her “fashion”. Yesterday before a session, she came up to me while I was working dressed in this get up. All of the stars were aligned because the perfect backdrop was already up in the studio so I dropped everything to take a couple of shots. The boots are her “cowgirls” and were a gift from Grandma. We can always tell when the “no shoes inside” rule is being broken because she wears them to ride her stick horse, Flicka, and it sounds like a herd of large four legged creatures running through our house.
Here combinations are not always, quite that “coordinated”. A few of her looks I have managed to catch over the past year…
I caught her in the studio playing on a backdrop having a concert with a thermometer for a mic and accepting what I can only assume was a grammy(old hockey trophy). I just grabbed the camera and shot without following any of the rules for a white backdrop, so technically, everything about the lighting, color and attempted fix is an absolute disaster but I still couldn’t resist sharing – it’s one of my favourite outfits she has come up with.

Nothing like a good bow to top off the hoodie and a skirt can always double as a halter top.

And to finish it off, a shot of her michevious side… before it was fashion, she was obsessed with putting everything and anything on her face. This was at the tail end of that phase and is my very fave.
I love you my girl….
Stay tuned for part two – My Ashlyn.
